THE porch project
We get it, stranger danger is REAL. We understand why your momma raised you NOT to accept invitations from strangers to crack open a cold one with them on their porch.
So that's why this page exists―to give you an idea of who we are, and why we're here.
I've been writing articles and taking pictures for quite some time now, and I am loving every minute of it. My first taste of journalism was in 2013, when I helped a D.C. photojournalist on a project for Teen Vogue; it's been love & many late nights of deadlines ever since.
Officially, I started my freelancing career the summer of my junior year of high school, when I became a paid freelance writer and photographer for The Connection Newspapers in Northern Virginia. However, most of my writing within the past year has been for local publications in Columbia, MO. In addition to writing for journalism classes at Mizzou, I have worked for various online publications, including The Tab and The Odyssey Online (fun fact: that's where I met my bestie Meg)! I am also a music beat writer for MOVE Magazine (an affiliation to our school paper The Maneater), and I've also served as an editorial assistant for the Arts & Books department of Vox Magazine. Although I am just now dipping my toes into the world of audio, I am excited to dabble in a new medium of storytelling...and also share my thoughts with Meg in our blog posts.
I have been writing creatively since my early days of grade school. Originally a marketing major, I soon realized that my skills were more relatable to the field of journalism.
Throughout high school, I wrote for the school newspaper. My senior year, I became editor-in-chief. Now a junior in college, I have written for The Odyssey Online, The Tab and Her Campus.
In addition to freelance writing, I also work in the advertising department at The Columbia Missourian.
I hope you enjoy our platform and are inspired to contribute!
